My work is at the intersection of media history and archaeology, science and technology studies, and exhibition studies.<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/people.unil.ch\/annekatrinweber\/accueil\/television-before-tv\/\"> My dissertation<\/a><\/strong>, for which I received the Society for Cinema and Media Studies Dissertation Award as well as the\u00a0<em>Prix de la Facult\u00e9\u00a0<\/em>of the University of Lausanne, looks at\u00a0interwar television in Great Britain, Germany, and the United States. It analyzes television\u2019s encounter with its earliest audiences at world exhibitions and industrial fairs, and\u2014focusing on televisual sites instead of televisual texts\u2014unearths the new media\u2019s multiple technologies and social uses showcased at these events. It argues that, despite weak commercial prospects, television rapidly became an actor in technopolitical competition staged at fairs, and discusses how institutional struggles and media identities were negotiated by putting television on display.<\/p>\n<p>I am currently a NOMIS Fellow at eikones, Center for the Theory and History of the Image, at the University of Basel. Before that, I was a Lecturer at the University of Lausanne, and a Visiting Scholar at Comparative Media\/Writing at MIT, Cambridge, and the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History, where I developed a new project supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF). Titled <a href=\"https:\/\/people.unil.ch\/annekatrinweber\/accueil\/a-media-archaeology-of-drones-television-in-the-army-1930s-1940s\/\"><strong><em>A Media Archaeology of Drones.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em><strong>Television in the Army<\/strong>,<\/em><\/a>\u00a0it aims at unearthing the military uses of television during World War II and at resituating the developed devices and implied actors within the media\u2019s broader historiography. It pursues therefore the double goal of reflecting upon the first experiences of tele-guided planes and bombs from a media historical perspective, and of contextualizing these developments in relation to industrial research on consumer electronics.<\/p>\n<p>Together with my colleague <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unil.ch\/hist\/fr\/home\/menuinst\/collaborateurrices\/collaborateurrices\/histoire-contemporaine-1\/vallotton-francois-1.html\">Fran\u00e7ois Vallotton<\/a> from the UNIL\u2019s History Department, I co-direct the SNF funded research project\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/people.unil.ch\/annekatrinweber\/accueil\/au-dela-du-service-public-pour-une-histoire-elargie-de-la-television-en-suisse-1960-2000\/\">Au-del\u00e0 du service public\u00a0: pour une histoire \u00e9largie de la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision en Suisse<\/a><\/strong>,<\/em> which investigates the actors, technologies and networks at the margins of Swiss television history.<\/p>\n<p>My publications include\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.antipodes.ch\/collections\/medias-et-histoire\/la-tlvision-du-tlphonoscope-youtube-detail\"><em>La t\u00e9l\u00e9vision du t\u00e9l\u00e9phonoscope \u00e0 YouTube.
