I am actively researching topics in <strong>data science<\/strong>, <strong>machine learning<\/strong>, <strong>recommender systems<\/strong>, and <strong>information retrieval<\/strong>. Prior to my current position, I spent 15 years conducting industrial research at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zurich.ibm.com\/\">IBM Zurich Research Laboratory<\/a> and at IBM Research in New York, and I also had a brief visit to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/mlas\/\">Microsoft Research<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hold a PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Riverside, and an MBA from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My current research focuses on interpretable recommender systems and large-scale data processing. My work has been supported by a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cordis.europa.eu\/mariecurie-actions\/irg\/home.html\">Marie-Curie IRG grant<\/a>, an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/erc.europa.eu\/starting-grants\">ERC Starting Grant<\/a> and an E4S grant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am a Professor of Information Systems at the\u00a0University of Lausanne, leading the &#8220;Big Data and Machine Learning&#8221; lab.
