I am a Professor of Information Systems at the University of Lausanne. I am leading the “Big Data and Machine Learning” lab. I am interested in the topics of data science, machine learning, recommender systems, and information retrieval. Prior to my current position, I spent 15 years conducting industrial research at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory and at IBM Research in New York, and I also had a brief visit to Microsoft Research.
I hold a PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Riverside, and an MBA from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
My current research focuses on interpretable recommender systems and large-scale data processing. My work has been supported by a Marie-Curie IRG grant, an ERC Starting Grant and an E4S grant.
